Broadly, I study the role of social networks in the (re)production of racial inequality in higher education. My current work is situated in three areas: science and technology studies, the academy and knowledge production, and developing critical pedagogy for methods and statistics.
Current Research
Science and Technology Studies
-
In progress: a mixed-methods project to understand perceptions of race/racism among computing undergradutes.
-
In progress: a study showing how ML technologies are used in big data projects and lead to inaccuarate knowledges about the state of racism in those fields
The Academy and Knowledge Production
-
I study how collaboration networks in the academy are racialized and lead to disporporate advantages for Whites in higher education.
Pedagogy
-
In progress: an experiment on the use of ChatGPT and effects on student writing in statistics.
-
In progress: an NSF proposal to create modules for inclusion to intro stats courses that show students how to interpret statistical data on race differences without reinforcing essentialist notions of race.
